Hi, I'm Janine Feuermann. Fifteen years of teaching showed me what was missing in early childhood music education. And Play Based Music is my answer to that.

If you're curious what this could look like at your school, let's connect.

About the Play Based Music Model

Play Based Music is a structured music education model for children aged 4 to 7. It bridges the gap between early childhood music and instrumental lessons — the transition stage that is typically missing in music schools. The model builds musical foundations through play: rhythm, pitch awareness, and note reading are introduced visually and intuitively, before children begin classical instrumental lessons. Play Based Music has been developed and tested at music schools in Switzerland, Germany, and France since 2021.

The model consists of three connected stages:

Stage 1 — PBM Early Childhood Music (ages 4–6): Children develop musical foundations through play-based activities. Rhythm, pitch awareness, and first note orientation. Without the pressure of instrumental technique.

Stage 2 — PBM Bridge (ages 5–7): The transition stage that is typically missing in music schools. Children connect their musical foundations to a specific instrument and learn to read traditional notation through games and structured activities.

Stage 3 — Classical Instrumental Teaching: Children enter instrumental lessons with a solid musical foundation already in place. Prepared, motivated, and ready to progress.

PBM has been tested at music schools and educational institutions in Germany, France, and Switzerland since 2021. It is instrument-independent and has been applied in piano and guitar teaching as well as in early childhood music classes. The model is designed to reduce drop-out rates in the first years of instrumental lessons by ensuring children are developmentally prepared before they begin.

Music schools interested in implementing Play Based Music can begin with a personal conversation. Collaborations are tailored to the size, instrument range, and existing programmes of each school.

For Music Schools

Play Based Music supports music schools in reducing dropout rates and strengthening the transition from early childhood music to instrumental teaching. The model provides a clear three-stage pathway. Early Childhood Music, PBM Bridge, and Instrumental Lessons, and gives teachers a shared framework and concrete materials across departments. Every collaboration is tailored to the size, instrument range, and existing programmes of the school. Music school directors are invited to begin with a free discovery call.
