First Music & Play Based Piano: Lessons for Every Age

First Music, ages 0 to 4

Early childhood music at home: singing, movement, first rhythm, and shared music-making with the instruments I bring along. For the youngest children, music is above all about connection and play, long before technique comes into it.

  • Private lesson, 30 minutes:
    80 CHF

  • Duo (with a sibling or friend),
40 minutes: 60 CHF per child

  • Group course (minimum 6 children, hosted at a family's home), 45 minutes:

Play Based Piano, ages 4 - 7

The first steps into piano playing, built through play. Children learn using a color notation system they grasp intuitively, then move on to standard notation gradually, when they are ready. A Play Based Pre Piano Curriculum that is designed for the years before traditional piano lessons begin, and it works as a bridge into them.

Hi, I’m Janine Feuermann

I'm a music educator with fifteen years of experience across music schools, kindergartens, and private piano lessons at home. I developed the Play Based Music method after running into the same gap again and again: the distance between early childhood music and traditional instrumental lessons, and how many children lose their footing in between. Play Based Music is what bridges it. From November 2026, I'll also be teaching a continuing education course on this approach at FHNW University of Music Basel.

Lessons are available in German or English, whichever your family prefers.

I’m offering Private Play Based Piano Lessons and Early Childhood Music Classes in Bruderholz, Bachletten, Bottmingen & Binningen

IIf you live in another neighborhood of Basel and are looking for at home music lessons, get in touch, I'm expanding regularly.

How Private Piano Lessons for Children at Home Work

Every lesson is built around play. That doesn't mean it's improvised. Behind the games sits a structured curriculum with clear developmental goals, and each child moves through it at their own pace, along their own path.

We agree on those goals together at the start, and we come back to them in regular check-ins, so you always know what your child is working on and what comes next. Between lessons, you don't need to supervise practice in the traditional sense. I leave you with games your family can play at home and play-alongs your child can use on their own. That's what practising looks like at this age, and it works far better than a timer and a scale.

The first lesson is a real, paid trial lesson, not just an informal meet-and-greet. That way, your child experiences an actual lesson from the very start.

If you don't have a piano at home yet, I can bring a keyboard, and for First Music I bring all the instruments we need.

Group courses are hosted at a family's home in the neighborhood. If you'd like to host and open your home to a small group, get in touch, there's a benefit on the course fee for hosting.
